A Medical Doctor, a Physician — also known as a medical practitioner, doctor of medicine, or simply doctor — practices the ancient profession of medicine. Physicians are concerned with maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, & treatment of disease or injury through detailed knowledge of academic disciplines which include life sciences, chemistry, psychology, sociology, underlying diseases, & their treatment. The best doctors realize medicine is a basic science, applied science, & an art or craft. The MCAT exam was rewritten so that beginning in 2015, pre-medical students are tested on social & behavioral sciences as well as mathematics & basic sciences. All undergraduate degrees bring their own gifts to the practice & for that reason, diversity of bachelor degrees is desired. For example, students who major in the arts are just a valued as medical school applicants as those who major in STEM. Around the world, doctors are respected for their high ethical standards which include they show empathy, compassion, consideration, & benevolence for their patients. What is respected in doctors holds true for the other medical professions on this list.
